2.10 Cooking Appliances

Cookers and other means of cooking or heating food with a naked flame are not to be used in any marquee that the public occupy. Electric cookers would need to be used in the same marquee. If naked flame cookers or heaters are to be used then the cookers or heaters would need to be used outside the marquee or used in a structure that is a 6 metre minimum from the main marquee.

Fire fighting equipment would be needed to be provided in any catering area to the minimum of 1 x 5 kg dry powder extinguisher and 1 fire blanket.

All gas cookers and heaters should conform to the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1994 (as amended in 1996) and be tested annually by an appropriate gas engineer, as well as be tested annually for PAT (Portable Appliance Test).

Every employer or self-employed person or owner of a gas or diesel or electric appliance installed in a premises have a duty of care to ensure any appliances are maintained in a safe condition and the work carried out on the appliance by a competent person.
